Chapter 1 The Beginning
Once upon a time there was a town. The town was Greensboro. In Greensboro there were two houses across town from each other. In those two houses lived two families. The Wilson family and the Campbell family. In the Wilson family there was a girl named Lilly. She lived with her Mom, her Dad, her older sister Meladie, her dog Digney, and her cat Socks. In the Campbell family was another girl named Halie. She lived with her Mom and her cat Oscar. Her dad lived in Illinois for his job, but sometimes he would visit, and he was planning to in two weeks. Hallie and Lilly were best friends. So sometimes they would visit each other.
Socks was lying on the floor in the den, napping in the sunlight. He woke up to the sound of Digney barking in the yard. It was a Saturday morning and Lilly had gone with her Dad to the coffee shop to meet Halie and her Mom. Lilly’s Mom was in the living room, reading a book, taking a break from the work that needed to be done around the house.
Socks was thinking about all the stories he had heard about Oscar. He wondered what he was doing right now. He often wondered what Oscar looked like. "I forgot", Socks thought. "What do I look like?" Socks got up and went to the bedroom. He checked to see if anyone was in there. He knew Ms. Wilson would think it would be funny for a cat to look in the mirror at himself. He thought he might be video taped. When he saw that nobody was in there, he went in and looked at himself. He saw a black three legged cat with hard to see stripes and a white belly and white paws. He wondered again, what Oscar looks like. Socks had an idea. He went into the hallway and saw the big gate in the doorway of Halie's room. Halie had a gate to keep Socks and Digney out of her room. They always could get into her room through the door and the lock did not work very good. Socks worked at the gate until it came open. "I didn't know I could do that!" thought Socks. He walked into Halie's room and saw a bulletin board on the wall above a doll house. He saw lots of pictures and cards on it. He got up on a table with another doll house that was across from the other. "Maybe I can jump on that other doll house and get a better look at the pictures!" he thought. Socks crouched down, batted his tail, and........"Ouch!" he meowed in a high pitched voice. Socks got up to see a toy wagon where his belly was. Socks batted the wagon away and tried again.
He crouched, waved his tail, and hopped up. Socks twirled in the air and landed perfectly on his three legs, or at least that's what he assumed would happen.
He realized he was almost out of reach so, he flung his paws and his claws on to the roof of the doll house and he ended up hanging by his paws. His claws were injected in the roof and he was starting to slip.
He dragged himself up on the doll house and looked around to make sure he was not the hilarious star of another video. When he was done checking for hidden cameras he looked around on the bulletin board. “No!” Thought Socks. “I went through all this work to find a picture of Oscar and I didn't find any!”
Then a sparkle caught his eye. It was a sparkly sticker on a scrapbook on Lilly’s bed. Socks hopped down and hopped on Lilly’s bed. He nudged the book open. It said Lilly and Halie. He flipped through and finally he found a picture of Oscar! His fluffy fur was light brown, well almost like a tan. He was a lot more fluffy than socks.
Socks decided to some how meet him. “I know”, thought Socks. “I can get into Lilly’s email and email Oscar!” Socks went into the den and hopped up on the chair in front of the computer.
He started to type. Gmaul, he clicked on Lilly’s email and tried to type again. SocksDigby, SocksDigney. “ I did it!” Thought Socks. “I got into Lilly’s email!” He looked for HallieCampbell. When he found it he selected it and found the reply button. He saw a box where he thought he was supposed to type.

Chapter 2 Next Stop The Park
Halie laughed at the email Socks sent. It was Thursday morning now. Of course Halie thought it was really Lilly who meant it as a joke and that she was really the one who sent this email. “ Hey Oscar look, Socks sent you an email!” Halie joked. Oscar came trotting over to Halie from his comfortable black and white soft chair he was taking a nap in. “An email from Socks?” Thought Oscar. “This should be interesting.” “Oh, Oscar you actually want to hear it?” said Halie. “Dear Oscar”, she read aloud to Oscar. “Please...sneak into Halie’s car next time she….comes to…..visit Lilly. Don’t let...them see you. I….have really…...wa...nt...ing...to meet you. Sorry about the typos. From, Socks.”
"Wow!” Thought Oscar. “Socks really wants to meet me?” “This is great, I need to get ready and plan on how I will get in the car without being caught!” “Hey Halie!” Said Ms.Campbell, Halie’s mom. “ Speaking of the Wilsons, I need to check my email to see what the plans are for Saturday.” “OK Mom”, Halie said as she logged out of her email.
Ms.Campbell checked her email with Halie by her side, waiting to see the plans. “Looks like we will meet them at Oakwood park at 11:30 AM and then we will get lunch with them!” Said Ms.Campbell. “ Nice!” Said Halie. Ms.Campbell replied,
Sounds great to Halie and I! We’ll see you there! :)

“ Oh no!” Said Ms.Wilson. “Looks like we might get some rain!” “ We won't cancel the park trip, will we?” said Lilly with worry in her voice. “At least I wont be crying!” said Meladie. “But I will!” Said Lilly. “And I’ll make sure it annoys you so you won't be happy after all.” “Girls!” said Mr. Wilson. “Thats enough!” “Lilly, lets you and me get into the car”, said Ms.Wilson.

While Lilly and Ms. Wilson got into the car Socks successfully sneaked out the door. Ms. Wilson opened the trunk car door. “Let’s hope our lunch doesn’t spill!” said Ms. Wilson as she put a picnic basket in the trunk. “ Mom, can you unlock the car?” Lilly asked, standing by the car door. Ms. Wilson left the trunk open to unlock the car. Meanwhile, Socks jumped into the back and hid behind a large box that was filled with toddler books.
“There you go Lilly!” Ms.Wilson said. “Thanks!” Lilly said as she got into the car. Ms. Wilson closed the trunk and got into the car. “I did it!” thought Socks. “This is amazing!”
*****
“ Halie can you get the blankets?” Ms. Campbell called out , holding the door open with a picnic basket in her arms.
“Sure!” Halie called out from the hallway next to the kitchen. She ran inside her mom’s bedroom to get some blankets out the closet. Meanwhile Oscar was on the dining room table, ready to make a diversion to get Ms. Campbell away from the door. He pushed off some papers, a container of pencils and erasers, and a container of hair ties.
Ms. Campbell heard the loud noise and set the picnic basket down so it would hold the door open. As she walked toward the dining room, Oscar ran all the way around the house, through the living room, through the hallway, and through the kitchen and out the door. He ran down the hill that Halie’s house sat on. He ran and hid under the car until he had a chance to get inside.
Meanwhile, inside the house, Ms. Campbell had picked up everything Oscar had knocked down. Halie came into the kitchen holding two blankets in her arms. She saw the picnic basket on the porch, holding the door open. “Great, another thing to carry!” said Halie. “No, I will carry that”, said Ms. Campbell.
Ms. Campbell picked the picnic basket up. Ms. Campbell and Halie walked outside to the car. Ms. Campbell opened the trunk and put the picnic basket in and then closed it. “No!”thought Oscar. “She closed the trunk I can’t get in now!” Halie opened the car door to get in. “Halie?” said Ms. Campbell. “Where are my keys?” “Oh, I think they are in the picnic basket”, Halie said opening the trunk again to get the keys.
Meanwhile, Oscar realized Halie left the car door open so he hopped in. While Halie went to give her mom the car keys, Oscar got on top of the seats and hopped in the trunk. “I hope nobody saw me!” Oscar thought as he hid behind two umbrellas. Then Ms. Campbell started up the car and Halie got in and took a seat.
“There you go Lilly!” Ms.Wilson said. “Thanks!” Lilly said as she got into the car. Ms. Wilson closed the trunk and got into the car. “I did it!” thought Socks. “This is amazing!”

Chapter 3 Left To Drown
“We’re here!” said Ms. Wilson. Lilly got out of the car. Ms. Wilson opened the trunk and pulled out the picnic basket. “Lilly, can you take this?” Ms. Wilson asked. She turned to Lilly and gave her the basket. Behind Ms. Wilson’s back, Socks jumped out of the car and hid under the car and waited until he could come out. “Wow, great timing, Halie and her mom just pulled up!” Lilly said.
Halie and Ms. Campbell got out of the car. Halie got the blankets out of the car and Ms. Campbell got the picnic basket. Oscar was still crouching behind the umbrellas. When the trunk closed he went up and down all the way to the front seat. He hid at the bottom of the passenger seat when he saw Ms. Campbell was about to open the car door. When Ms. Campbell did she paused to put down the picnic basket and while she was swinging her car keys around her finger they flung off her finger and flew into the grass of the park. Oscar first check to see if Halie was around and then he slipt down under the car just as Socks did.

Halie, Ms. Campbell, Lilly, and Ms. Wilson were eating and Oscar and Socks were still under the cars. “I thought they were going to go out to eat after the park”, thought Socks. “Well, at least that gives me and Oscar more time.” “If he even came….”. Socks started to slowly sneak out from under the car. Then he quickly dashed across an open grassy area and behind a fountain. Oscar thought her saw the black blur that was Socks. So, he did the same. Both cats, when at the fountain, turned around and started backing up more behind the fountain. They both bumped into each other. Their stood up and they jumped forward. Both of them turned around to face each other. “Who are you?” asked Socks. “Who are YOU?” Oscar asked. “ Fine!” said Socks. “I'm Socks!” Oscar gasped. “Socks?”said Oscar. “It’s me, Oscar!” “Oh yeah!” said Socks. “I forgot what you look like.” Oscar looked at him in a puzzled way. “It’s a long story.”

“Bye Halie”, said Lilly as she hugged her friend. “Bye Lilly”, said Halie hugging her too. Ms. Wilson and Ms. Campbell said bye too and both mothers and daughters got back into the car and drove away. Oscar and Socks were laughing their whiskers off and didn’t even realize they were left behind. “Well, we don’t to be left behind so we should probably sneak back into the cars”, said Oscar. “Yeah”, said Socks. They both went around the fountain to peek at the four girls who were supposed to be right there finishing up playing and eating. Oscar and Socks gasped in sync. “They left!” said Oscar. “What are we going to do!” said Socks. Suddenly a loud booming sound made Socks and Oscar jump in fear.
“What was that?” said Oscar. “Please don’t tell me thats thunder. “It’s thunder!” said Socks. “Thats what I was afraid of!” Then the sky was pouring with rain. “Please, make it stop!” Socks desperately meowed. “Socks do you know how to get home?” asked Oscar. “No!” said Socks trying to find a place to hide from the rain. “Oscar, come here, I found a good place to hide!"

Chapter 3 Who Let The Cats Out?
“Mom!” said Meladie. “Where is Socks? He can’t still be hiding from the storm from last night because now it’s a beautiful Sunday!” “He must have gotten out again!” said Ms. Wilson. “What?” said Lilly. “Socks is missing?” “He will be fine don’t worry”, said Meladie reassuring her worried little sister. “I wonder…..”, said Lilly. “Where he is now, and what is he doing?”

“Mom, Oscar is missing!” said Halie. “Lilly emailed me that Socks is missing too!” “You don't think…..” said Ms. Campbell, her voice trailed off.

Ms. Campbell looked at a picture of Socks.“Socks really sent that email and Oscar really did go to the park with Socks?” “That can’t be possible!” said Halie. “Well….. maybe we should go to the park…...no…..maybe. Im confused!” “I think we need to at least try the park”, said Ms. Campbell.

“I don’t see them anywhere!” said Halie. “I don’t either!” said Ms. Campbell. “I hope they’re Ok!” said Halie. “They're probably fine!” Ms. Campbell reassured, not exactly sure she was right.
Chapter 4 Doggy Dinner
“This way!” said Oscar. “Wait no, this way!” “Oh who am I kidding!” “I don’t know which way to go!” Socks rolled his eyes and sat down on the sidewalk. “Hey kitty cats!” barked a voice. “I can help you!” Socks and Oscar turned around to where the voice was coming from. Standing in a doorway of a shop was a tall light brown dog. “Come in!” he said. “But you're a dog”, said Oscar. “Yes, but I love cats!” said the dog. “I live with one! My name is Ricky!” “Well, if you love cats and you live with one, I guess we can come in”, said Socks.
“Are you hungry?” asked Ricky as he led Socks and Oscar into the shop and up some stairs. “Yes!” said Oscar. “We have only eaten grass since yesterday morning and then we just threw it up!” said Socks. “Well, just follow me and you will be hungry no more!” said Ricky leading them into a apartment that was at the top of the stairs. Inside there were two chairs, a couch, a coffee table, a TV, a dining room table, a bedroom, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. Inside the bedroom a white cat with black spots was asleep. “My owners went out to eat with some friends, so it’s just me, you two cats, and Oreo”, said Ricky. “Oh!” said Oscar. “Is that the cat in the bedroom?” “Yep!” said Ricky. “But do not wake him up! He will be very grumpy!”
Ricky hopped up in a chair that was around the dining room table. Socks hopped up beside him and Oscar got in a chair next to the one Socks and Ricky were sharing. “See all of this?” said Ricky looking at all the food on the table. There was hamburger meat and bread. There was grapes and lettuce. There was fish and jello. There were two, drooling cats, sitting in their seat. “This is all ours”, said Ricky. “We get to eat human food?” asked Socks. “Well it was made for pets”, said Ricky. “Lets just say my owers treat me and oreo like one of them.”
*****
Socks, Oscar, and Ricky were eating as much as their bellies could hold. Well, more like Oscar and Socks than Ricky. “Wow!” said Ricky. “You really were hungry!” “Yep!” said Socks. The jello and fish were gone and Oscar started to try the grapes and lettuce. “Here!” said Ricky pushing the hamburger meat to Socks. “Try some of this!” Socks sniffed the meat. Then he licked it.

“Hmm…..”, said Socks. He took a bite. “Yum!” He started to eat more.

“Time for dessert!” said Ricky. “I don’t know if I can have dessert!” said Oscar. “I'm stuffed!” “Good!” said Ricky. “So now it will be even harder to get away!” “Why….?” asked Socks, looking at Ricky’s sharp teeth in his sharp, evil smile. “Well, I wouldn’t want my dessert to get away, would I?” Ricky said in a scary voice as he leaned in on Socks. “Run!” said Oscar. Socks and Oscar got out of their chairs and ran into the kitchen. Ricky barked and chased them. He saw Socks and charged toward him. Socks lept up on the countertop and backed away. Ricky charged at Oscar, who was on the other side of the kitchen. Oscar lept up on to the countertop and backed away.
Ricky was getting ready to jump on the countertop to get Oscar. “Not so fast!” said a voice from the doorway that led to the dining room. It was Oreo and he did look mad! “Bad dog!” he said, making a fierce face at Ricky. “What did Lisa and Frank say about eating other animals?” “I know they said not to, but you're not the boss of me!” said Ricky. “Quit being such a baby and let them go!” said Oreo. “I told you, you’re not the boss of me!” barked Ricky. Socks and Oscar thought that was the scariest he had ever sounded. But Oreo did not seem scared. Ricky turned back to Oscar. “You too follow me!” said Oreo.
Oscar and Socks jumped down and ran after Oreo! They ran into the bedroom as fast as they could. “Jump out the window!” said Oreo. “What?” said Socks. “Just do it!” said Oreo. Ricky appeared in the doorway. “Hurry!” said Oreo. “JUMP!” Socks and Oscar jumped out the window. But at the same time Ricky had ran to the window and almost bit Oscar’s tail. Oscar and Socks fell and fell and fell. They fell into something big and green. “Ouch!” said Socks. Oscar looked down and he saw Socks laying on some trash. Next thing Oscar knew, he had hit his head. All, went black.
Chapter 5 The Alley Cats
Oscar opened his eyes. “What happened?” he asked. “Oh you’re awake!” said Socks. Oscar looked up and saw Socks sitting on a black bag. “Remember we jumped out the window to escape Ricky”, said Socks. “ We fell in here and I hit my head and got knocked out. So did you. I think when you hit your head, you hit it on the lid to this thing, so I have been trying to open it. “Are we in one of those big trash box things?” Oscar asked. “Yes!” said Socks. “What time is it?” Oscar asked. “I don’t know!” said Socks. “Help me open this thing!” Oscar and Socks pushed the lid open. Oscar pushed with his front paws and Socks pushed with his one hind leg.
The lid swung open and Socks and Oscar got out. “It looks like midnight!” said Oscar. “If I’m correct, it should be Monday!” “Who cares!” hissed a voice. Oscar and Socks turned around. There were two cats sticking out of a trash can. “We used to be just like you!” one cat said. It was a girl and she was was dark brown. “Me and my brother were lost too!” she said. Oscar and Socks looked at the other cat. He was black with terrifying yellow eyes compared to his sister. She had nice, calm, and gentle dark green eyes. Yet she seemed so mean and fierce.
“We were scared and confused too!” she said. “Until we found the alley cats! They asked if we wanted to join them, we said yes! We were very happy with them and we still are today! Now it’s your turn to join us!” “Thanks, but I think we’re just going to go…..”, said Oscar, walking away. “Wait!” said the girl cat. “Are you sure you don’t want to join us?” “Im sorry, but we already have someone at home”, said Oscar. “And they miss us, and we miss them.” “Fine!” said the girl cat. “If you don’t want to join us then you’re an outsider!” The more she talked the more mad she sounded. “You know what we do to outsiders? We make sure they are sorry they ever stepped foot on our territory!”
“Run!” said Socks. Socks and Oscar ran out of the alley. Oscar looked back and saw at least 20 cats jump out of trash cans and boxes. Socks and Oscar ran down the sidewalk and into another alley. “Psst!” said a voice. Another cat jumped out of a box. He was gray with yellow eyes. “Follow me!” he said. “Hurry!” He led Socks and Oscar into a bush.

Outside they heard the alley cats running by. “I’m Smokey!”said the gray cat. “I’m Oscar and this is Socks!” said Socks. “It’s the other way around, he is Socks and I’m Oscar”, said Oscar. “Sorry, we both hit our heads while escaping from a dog, and he must have hit his head harder than I thought.” “So, how did you two end up in a fight with Claw Clan?” said Smokey. “Claw Clan?” said Oscar. “Yeah!” said Smokey. “They’re a clan and the clan’s name is Claw Clan!” “The alley cats are a clan?” said Oscar. “Yeah!” said Smokey. “So, tell me everything!” So, Oscar and Socks told Smokey the whole story.
“I can help you!” said Smokey. “I know where your house is Oscar!” “You do?” asked Oscar. “Yeah!”said Smokey. “I go around that neighborhood all the time!” “Follow me!” Smokey led Socks and Oscar out of the bush and led them back through an empty alley and out on the sidewalk. He led them across the street and down the sidewalk then turned left. “I think it will be morning soon!” said Smokey as he kept going. “Are we almost there?” asked Socks. “Almost!” said Smokey.
Chapter 6 The Chase home
“It has been hours!” said Socks. “It’s only been 15 minutes!” said Oscar. “Shh!” said Smokey. “Do you hear that?” There was a quiet and low growl coming from the corner of a building. Then suddenly Ricky jumped out from the corner and started chasing Smokey, Oscar, and Socks. “I’m back!” said Ricky. “And hungrier than ever!” “Run, run, run, run, run!” said Oscar. Oscar, Smokey, and Socks were all running as fast a possible, trying to get away from the hungry, terrifying dog that once acted like a friend to Oscar and Socks. “Why do you want to eat us, out of all cats?” asked Socks. “Because, I’ve never caught a cat before!” said Ricky. “And I am super hungry, now that I’m lost!” “You’re lost too?” asked Oscar. “Yes!” said Ricky. “After you two fell out the window I went to search for you! I gave up and tried to get back home, but I was lost So, now I’m hungry and since this is all your fault I’m going to eat you!” Suddenly something white with brown spots passed Ricky.
“Not another dog!” said Smokey. The other dog scooped up Socks, Oscar, and Smokey. “AAH!” screamed Smokey. “Relax!” said Socks. “This is Digney! He lives with me!” “Hi!” said Digney. “Socks I’ve been looking all over for you!” “This is Oscar and Smokey!” said Socks. “Ouch!” said Digney. Smokey had his hind legs on Digney’s back and his front paws were on his head. His claws were out and were clanging on to Digney. Oscar and Socks were right behind Smokey on Digney’s back.
“Ricky is catching up to us!” said Oscar. “Smokey where do we go?” Smokey started to direct Digney to the neighborhood. “We’re here!” said Smokey. “There’s the Campbell house!” said Oscar. “Home!” Digney carried the cats into the yard. Ricky followed them. “Give it up Ricky!” said Socks. “We won! We got Oscar home and his owners are gonna take us home!” “Fine!” said Ricky. “You win, but what about that gray cat! He doesn’t belong with any of you! He doesn’t have a home!” “We will find him one!” “Ricky!” said Smokey. “I know my way all around town! I’m sure I can get you home!” “Really?” said Ricky. “Thank you!” “Bye Socks!” said Smokey. “Bye Oscar! Bye Digney!” “Bye!” said Oscar, Socks, and Digney in sync. “Bye!” said Ricky.
After Ricky and Smokey left, Digney started barking very loudly to get Ms. Campbell’s attention. “She is probably asleep!” said Socks. “But the sun is rising!” said Digney. “Yeah, but who would wake up this early in the morning?” “Halie would!” said Oscar. “Sometimes she gets up early!” “Hey!” said Socks. “Guess what!” “It’s Tuesday now!” “Cool!” said Digney. “Now help me make some noise!” Oscar started scratching on the door and Socks meowed as loud as he could. Soon the door opened. “Oscar!” said Halie. “Digney, Socks!”

It was a rainy Wednesday morning but both, Campbell family and Wilson family were happy. “Thanks again for bringing Socks and Digney home!” said Ms. Wilson. “No problem!” said Ms. Campbell. “It was the craziest thing, Halie woke up yesterday morning to the sound of barking, scratching, and meowing. She opened the door and Digney, Socks, and Oscar were all standing there on the porch! Well, bye!” “Bye!” said Ms. Wilson.

Oh yeah, Bronwen is a girl that lives near Halie and is her friend! She adopted Smokey when he showed up at her porch! From, Oscar.” As you can see everyone lived happily ever after!
